Ingredients
- Frozen waffle fries, any brand: You can use any brand of fries. If you want to cook another variety of fries, be sure to see our comprehensive guide to air frying frozen french fries linked above!
- Light olive oil: You can also use another high smoke point oil such as avocado oil. Learn more: Our Favorite Oils to use for Air Frying. We like olive oil for fries because it has a great taste and a high smoke point.
- Salt: In addition to other seasonings of choice, if desired! We generally recommend using kosher salt as it typically adds better flavor than table salt.

How to Air Fry Frozen Waffle Fries

Step 1 - Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. While it's preheating, take the frozen bag of waffle fries out of the freezer and pour it into a large bowl. Drizzle with light olive oil, then toss until all fries are coated. Season fries with a bit of salt for extra flavor, plus any other seasonings you prefer (such as black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, or even cayenne pepper or our chili seasoning), then toss them again to coat completely.

Step 2 - Place the frozen waffle fries in your air fryer basket once preheated, arranging them in a single layer as much as possible. Some overlap is OK, but don't overcrowd the air fryer basket, or they won't crisp up as much as you want. In our recipe testing, we found an average 16 ounce bag of frozen waffle fries fits perfectly in our 7 ounce air fryer basket.

Step 3 - Air fry for 8-10 minutes at 400°F. After 8-10 minutes, your perfect waffle fries should be golden brown and crispy. Carefully remove them from the air fryer basket, serve, and enjoy!
Recipe Tips
See our section on Troubleshooting below if you have a specific problem, such as the fries not crisping up or burning.
- Make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket. This leads to uneven cooking and the fries won't get crispy.
- Make sure to check the nutritional information on your package of fries if you need exact info. The listed nutrition in the recipe card is specific to the brand we used!
Troubleshooting
- Waffle fries not crisping up? Make sure your air fryer basket isn't overcrowded. Cook in batches if necessary. Use an oil sprayer filled with your preferred oil to spray the fries rather than tossing them in oil.
- Burned the fries? Lower the temperature and the cooking time. Shake the basket more often during the cook time, and ensure you're not using too much oil.
- Unevenly cooked fries? Shake the basket frequently and make sure you're not overcrowding the basket. If you're using homemade fries you froze yourself, they need to be cut to a uniform size to cook evenly!

- Loaded fries. We love this combo: crackle some crispy bacon and sprinkle it over your waffle fries along with melted cheese, sour cream, and chives or green onions. This is great for using up leftover waffle fries, too.
Storing Leftovers
Store leftover waffle fries in the refrigerator in an airtight container. When ready to reheat, reheat them in the air fryer at 400°F for about 3 minutes.

- Pour the seasoned frozen waffle fries into the preheated air fryer basket in a single layer. Make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket or the fries won't cook properly.

Notes
-
- Fries not crispy enough? Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. Increase the temperature or cooking time a little bit, if necessary. Use cooking spray instead of oil, but remember: use an oil sprayer filled with your preferred oil. Do not use a pressurized cooking spray with additives as it can damage the nonstick surface of your air fryer!
-
- Burned the fries? Lower the temperature and cooking time, shake the basket more often, and don't use too much oil. See our guide to air frying oils if your oil doesn't seem to be working well for you.
-
- Fries not cooking evenly? Shake the basket frequently and avoid overcrowding. If you're using homemade french fries you froze yourself, make sure they've been cut to equal sizes.
- Nutritional value is based off of generic frozen waffle fries. Please check the packaging of your frozen fries for accurate nutrition.
