Shake and Bake Pork Chops in the Air Fryer
Shake 'n Bake pork chops are a simple option for dinner. They generally use less oil than fried foods and are beloved by kids and adults alike. So, what could be better? Air fryer shake and bake pork chops! Here's why air frying shake and bake pork chops is a great option:
- Quick Cooking: Air fryer dinners tend to require a much lower cooking time. Pork chops can be cooked in the air fryer in a fraction of the time it takes to cook them in an oven or on the stovetop! This is perfect for busy weeknight dinners when you want a homemade dinner but are short on time.
- Less Mess: Air fryers are known for being relatively mess-free. No need to deal with splattering oil or a greasy stovetop. Everything is neatly contained in the air fryer basket! Cleanup is as simple as removing and washing the basket or tray.
- Even Cooking: Air fryers distribute heat evenly, which means your pork chops will cook uniformly. There are no hot spots or uneven cooking, which can sometimes happen with traditional ovens or on stovetops.
Most importantly, these pork chops truly taste delicious. They're the perfect combination of crispy and tender, with a crunchy golden crust that seals in the natural juices of the pork chops.

Ingredients

- Pork loin chops (1½ inches thick): Look for boneless pork loin chops that are about 1-inch to 1½ inches thick. This thickness allows for even cooking and juiciness. When selecting pork chops, check for pink to pale pink meat with some marbling (thin streaks of fat). The marbling adds flavor and helps keep the meat moist as it cooks!
- Oil spray: Use your favorite oil, such as olive oil or avocado oil, in an oil spray bottle to coat the pork chops. This helps give them a crispy texture. Important: Avoid using pressurized cooking spray, as it might damage the air fryer surface. Learn more: Our Favorite Oils to use for Air Frying.
- Shake 'N Bake Mix for Pork Chops (or, make your own): This is what provides the flavorful coating for your pork chops. You won't need any extra seasoning outside of this mix. You'll need a 1 gallon zip-top plastic bag to shake the pork chops in the Shake 'N Bake mixture.

How to Air Fry Shake and Bake Pork Chops
Step 1 - Prep: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F. and empty the contents of the Shake N Bake packet into a 1 gallon zip-top bag.

Step 2 - Dry Pork Chops: Pat pork chops dry with paper towel.

Step 3 - Coat the Pork Chops with Oil: Generously coat each pork chop with oil on both sides. This helps the Shake N Bake mixture adhere to the pork chops so they develop that nice crispy exterior.

Step 4 - Coat the Pork Chops with Shake N Bake: Place one pork chop at a time in the bag containing the Shake N Bake. Seal the bag and shake it until the pork chop is evenly coated.
Remove the pork chop and set aside. Repeat this process with the remaining pork chops. Dispose of any leftover coating mix after use.

Step 5 - Air Fry: Place the Shake N Bake seasoned pork chops in the air fryer basket, arranging them in a single layer. This is crucial as it guarantees they cook evenly and become crispy. If you overcrowd the air fryer basket, the pork chops will not cook correctly.

Step 6 - Air fry the pork chops for 10-12 minutes. For even cooking, turn the pork chops over halfway through the air frying process. We recommend you set a timer to remember!

Step 7 - Check for Doneness: To ensure the pork chops are cooked perfectly, use an instant-read meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. Insert it into the thickest part of a pork chop. The pork chops are ready to be removed from the air fryer when the thermometer reads 138-140°F. The safe internal temperature for pork chops is 145°F, and they will reach that temperature during resting.*
Step 8 - Rest the Pork Chops: Allow the pork chops to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. In that time, the pork chops will reach 145°F and the juices will redistribute, making the pork chops more tender and flavorful. Enjoy your delicious dinner!
A common misconception about pork chops is that they must be completely white all of the way through when they are cooked. You're overcooking your pork if so! Properly cooked pork chops will be slightly pink in the center and the juices will be clear. They will always be tender and juicy.
Overcooked pork chops will be tough and dry, so that’s why it’s always important to check the temperature of the pork chops with an instant read thermometer to guarantee the best flavor and texture!
*Although 145°F is the safe internal temperature for pork chops, you want to remove them 5 degrees below the target temperature. They will reach the proper temperature while resting.
Variations
- Try something new by using different Shake 'N Bake flavors (such as garlic herb or barbecue) to make this dish.
- Experiment with mixing additional seasonings into the coating mix for a unique taste.
- Trying bone-in pork chops for a different texture and flavor. Adjust the cooking time as needed, always cooking to the proper temperature of 140°F and then allowing to rest 5-10 minutes.
