Fish Taco Cream Sauce
If you haven't noticed, we love seafood. From fish like mahi mahi to air fryer frozen shrimp and, of course, fish tacos, it's hard for us to resist a good seafood dinner! We're going to guess you feel the same way!
Maybe the best part about a plate of crispy fish tacos, though, is creamy fish taco sauce to drizzle over top. This zesty, creamy, tangy sauce combines flavors that bring out the best in seafood, but it pairs with so much more. Have fun experimenting!
It takes just a few minutes to mix together the simple ingredients to make our fish taco sauce recipe. Give it a try, and you'll have a new favorite taco sauce - we just know it!
Creamy Fish Taco Sauce Ingredients

- Mayonnaise: For best fish taco sauce flavor and texture, use full fat mayonnaise. One of our favorite mayos to use is Blue Plate. Heavy mayo is the most delicious, so if you can manage to get some from your local deli, give it a try.
- Sour Cream: Just like the mayo, full fat sour cream works best for making the creamiest, most delicious fish taco sauce. We recommend you go for full fat. If you need a lighter variety, however, you can use Greek yogurt as a substitute; just note that it will change the texture and flavor somewhat.
- Lime Juice: Citrus makes an amazing pairing with fish tacos, and it's even better mixed into a creamy sauce like this one. Use fresh squeezed juice from a lime for best results.
- Seasoning: We're using a mixture of ground cumin, garlic powder, and kosher salt as seasoning for our fish taco sauce recipe. This adds to the depth of flavor without being overpowering.
- Hot Sauce: Use your favorite hot sauce; we'll just be using a small amount. Sriracha is our favorite.
How to Make Fish Taco Sauce

Mixing the ingredients
Add all ingredients into a medium bowl and whisk to combine. Continue whisking until smooth. Give it a taste and adjust the flavors to your liking. For best results, add it to the fridge for several hours up to overnight. This will give you the most developed flavor in your fish taco sauce.
Recipe Tips
- Use ¼ teaspoon hot sauce for a milder sauce. If you really like a spicy kick, use ½ teaspoon or more to taste.
- You can also use chipotle peppers or chipotle sauce to add spice to your sauce if you like. Alternatively, cayenne pepper will work in a pinch, too.
- If you like cilantro, feel free to chop up some fresh cilantro to pair with the sauce when serving.
What to Serve with Fish Taco Sauce
Creamy fish taco sauce is delicious with everything from cod or halibut fish tacos on flour or corn tortillas, to roast chicken, as a dip for chicken wings, over burritos with refried beans and cheese, and so much more. These are just a few ideas. You really can't go wrong with what you pair with this fish taco sauce, so try it with similar recipes and find your favorite combinations!

FAQ
If you'd rather not use full fat sour cream in your fish taco sauce, or don't have any sour cream on hand for fish tacos, then you can use Greek yogurt. You can leave out the sour cream and use more mayo, too, if necessary, but it tastes best with sour cream.
