Stuffing in the Air Fryer
For Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, we decided we'd make our entire roast dinner in the air fryer. All of it, from the main course to the side dishes! After air frying whole chicken in place of roasted turkey, our recipe for homemade mashed potatoes, green beans, and acorn squash, we knew what we had to make next: air fryer dressing.
Yes, this is technically a dressing recipe. We know! But, you don't need to bake this stuffing mix inside of the bird for it to turn out truly delicious. It has so much flavor and can be made using bread cubes or a classic box of Stove Top Stuffing.
All you need is a baking dish small enough to fit into your air fryer (ours is 5.5 by 8-inches for a 7 quart air fryer) and a few simple ingredients to make stuffing in the air fryer. Let's get air frying!
Ingredients
- Seasoned Bread Cubes: You can also use unseasoned bread cubes, or even make them yourself. Do not use bread crumbs. An alternative to bread cubes would be a 6 ounce box of Stove Top Stuffing - our favorite!
- Chicken Broth: We're using our homemade chicken broth, but any brand of broth will do. We recommend using chicken broth rather than other varieties, but veggie will do in a pinch.
- Butter: We're using unsalted butter. If you use salted butter, be sure not to over-salt your stuffing.
- Onion and Celery: Necessary additions to stuffing! You want to chop them up so they're finely diced. See our guide on dicing onions if you need some tips.
- Turkey Rub Seasoning: For seasoning our stuffing, we're using our homemade turkey seasoning. It is truly delicious, and we highly recommend giving it a try!
- Parsley: A little sprinkling of fresh parsley adds a pop of vibrant color and flavor to stuffing.
Instructions
Step 1
In a large mixing bowl, combine 6 ounces seasoned bread cubes with 1½ cups chicken broth and 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter (melted). Mix well to ensure all the bread cubes are coated and let sit about 5 minutes until they soften.
Step 2
Add ⅓ cup onion, ⅓ cup celery, and 1 teaspoon turkey rub seasoning. Mix well to combine.
Step 3
Transfer the mixture to a heatproof, oven-safe dish that fits in your air fryer. We are using a 5.5 by 8-inch rectangular pan that fits in our 7 quart air fryer.
Step 4
Place the dish with the stuffing into the air fryer basket and air fry at 350°F for 12-15 minutes. Stuffing is done when it is a deep golden brown color and the bread cubes are slightly crispy but still moist. Continue cooking as needed to achieve desired color and texture.
Step 5
Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with finely chopped parsley. Serve and enjoy!
Recipe Tips
- You could also use fresh bread you cube yourself. You will need to toss with a little oil and turkey seasoning, then air fry the bread cubes at 350°F for about 2-3 minutes until crisp. Similar to the air fryer croutons we make for our Big Mac Salad recipe!
- This recipe is easily doubled if you are serving more people or want to plan for leftovers.
- Cook time may vary depending on your specific air fryer.
What to Serve with Stuffing
Storage Instructions
- Store leftover stuffing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Reheat in the air fryer.
Add-Ins for Stuffing
Delicious additions include:
- 1 granny smith apple, finely diced
- ½ cup dried cranberries, such as Craisins
- ½ pound of fully cooked ground turkey sausage. Cook in a skillet before adding to the dressing mixture.
