Frozen Potstickers in the Air Fryer
We'll be the first to admit to ruining a perfectly good batch of frozen pot stickers by not following directions to the letter, not having the right pan, or simply stepping away for a minute too long while they cook.
Even when you think you've cooked them properly, nothing is more disappointing than realizing the wrappers are soggy, or your dumplings are sticking together. Worse yet, cooking them too quickly on the outside only to find they're still cold in the middle!
Cooking frozen gyoza in the air fryer may be the best way to prepare them. Air fryer frozen dumplings are perfectly crisp, don't stick together, and heat all of the way through without any guesswork.
Best of all, this method works with any brand! Use whatever you like best, and don't forget your favorite dipping sauce.

What You'll Need
- Frozen chicken potstickers: Although we use Tai Pei chicken potstickers for this recipe, you can use any variety you like, including vegetable, pork, or beef. Bibigo or Ling Ling potstickers, for example, are another popular choice for making air fryer dumplings.
- Oil spray: Use an oil sprayer with your preferred oil, such as light olive oil or avocado oil. Do not use a pressurized cooking spray with additives as it can damage the non-stick surface of your air fryer. We prefer avocado oil, as it has a high smoke point and is a more wholesome oil than other kinds. Read more here: Our Favorite Oils to use for Air Frying.
You can also use different types of dumplings, like gyoza and wontons, to make this recipe. As long as the ingredients are similar and the size difference isn't too drastic, it will work.
How to Air Fry Frozen Potstickers
Step 1 - If your frozen dumplings come with a sauce packet, place it in a bowl of warm water to thaw, and set aside until ready to use.
Step 2 - Spray the air fryer basket with pure oil, such as avocado oil or olive oil.
Step 3 - Place frozen potstickers in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Give them enough room for air to circulate all around each dumpling.
Step 4 - Spray both sides of the dumplings with oil spray.
Step 5 - Air fry at 375°F for 12 minutes. Flip halfway through the cook time.
Step 6 - Serve with sauce for dipping, and enjoy!
Tips
- Cook from frozen – do not thaw first.
- Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. Cook in batches if necessary. Air fried dumplings should be evenly spaced out in a single layer to allow airflow between each potsticker. If you overload the basket, they will stick together.
- Coat both sides of the potstickers with oil to prevent the wrappers from drying out. After spraying one side, use tongs to turn them over and spray the opposite side so they are coated nicely.
- Total time may vary depending on your specific air fryer model and size. You may need to adjust the timing according to your model.
- Recipe time and temperature is based on a cold air fryer. If cooking multiple batches, check on them early, as they will cook more quickly than the first batch.
- Remember to set a timer if your air fryer does not remind you to turn halfway through cooking.
Storing Instructions
If you have leftover potstickers, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Storing them properly inside of the fridge will ensure they stay fresh for a few days.
Dipping Sauce Suggestions
Frozen potstickers typically come with a packet of dipping sauce in the package that you simply have to add to water to thaw by the time the dumplings are done cooking. However, you may also want to try your own dipping sauces or a condiment, such as:
- Soy sauce: Simple soy sauce is always a delicious choice for potstickers. We personally enjoy a simple side of soy sauce the most with veggie dumplings served over rice.
- Hoisin sauce: Slightly sweet, salty, and tangy, hoisin is delicious with potstickers of all kinds - especially pork.
- Sweet chili sauce: With a sweet and spicy flavor, sweet chili sauce is a great choice for pairing with chicken dumplings.
- Sweet and Sour Sauce: Tangy and flavorful condiment typically made with a combination of sugar, vinegar, and various seasonings for a burst of flavor!
FAQ
Using the air fryer, it's easy to make frozen potstickers crispy. Make sure to lightly coat the dumplings with oil on both sides, and allow airflow between each potsticker by spacing them out in the air fryer basket. Flip them halfway through the cooktime.
The best way to cook frozen potstickers without having them stick together is to make sure they are evenly spaced out in the air fryer basket, and coated with oil on both sides. If you don't coat them with oil, the wrappers may stick to the air fryer basket; and if the potstickers are too close together, they may stick to each other.
