Ingredients
- Frozen Chicken Patties: There are numerous brands available, but Tyson Chicken Patties stand out as our top pick! You can easily find them in your grocery store's frozen aisle. Keep in mind this recipe will work for all chicken patty brands.
- Cheese: We recommend using thin slices of cheese as they melt nicely in the air fryer. We are using cheddar cheese on our chicken burgers today, but feel free to mix it up and use your favorite sliced cheese!
- Burger Buns: We recommend brioche buns, which you can usually find in the bakery section of your local grocery store. But, pick up your favorite buns for crispy chicken sandwiches! Any will work. Be sure to toast your buns in the air fryer too!
Our recipe doesn't require olive oil or any other cooking oils! You can air fry frozen chicken patties to achieve the perfect crisp texture without adding extra oil. This eliminates the need for the large amount of oil typically used in deep frying!

Optional Toppings for Chicken Patties
- Sriracha Aioli: This is our favorite choice for air fryer chicken patties! A creamy and spicy blend of about ¼ cup mayo with 1 teaspoon or more of sriracha, according to how spicy you like your sauce. It combines the smooth texture of mayo with the sharp and spicy kick of sriracha!
- Buffalo Sauce: Tangy and spicy buffalo sauce is a classic choice for breaded chicken, especially when paired with bleu cheese dressing. You can make a delicious buffalo and bleu cheese chicken burger this way!
- Ketchup and Mustard: You can't go wrong with classic ketchup and mustard when it comes to burgers!
- Barbecue Sauce: We love BBQ sauce on our chicken burgers! Pick your favorite for a sauce that's sweet, tangy, and smoky, and pair it with your favorite toppings, like pickles!
- Honey Mustard: A classic sweet and tangy choice for pairing with chicken!
- Ranch Dressing: Creamy and herby, ranch dressing is great with chicken and your favorite toppings, especially on a buttery bun.
How to Cook Frozen Chicken Patties in the Air Fryer
Step 1 - Preheat
Start by preheating your air fryer or air fryer oven to 375°F. This step is crucial to ensure the frozen patties cook evenly and achieve the right texture.
Step 2 - Air Frying: Place the frozen breaded chicken patties in a single layer in the air fryer basket or tray. This arrangement allows for even air circulation and consistent cooking. Make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer; cook in batches if necessary.
Step 3 - Turn Over: For a standard air fryer, cook at 375°F for 8-10 minutes. For a countertop air fryer oven, like the Breville Smart Oven Air, cook at the same temperature but increase the time to 15-18 minutes. In both cases, flip the patties halfway through the cooking time. This ensures the patties are heated through and crispy on both sides.
Step 4 - Toasting the Buns: After removing the cooked chicken patties, place the hamburger buns in the air fryer with the inside facing up. Toast them at 400°F. This should take about 1 minute in a standard air fryer and 1-2 minutes in an air fryer oven. Toasting the buns adds a nice crunch and warmth to your burger.
Step 5 - Assemble: Finally, assemble your chicken burgers. Place each chicken patty on a bottom bun and add your preferred toppings. This step is where you can get creative and personalize your burger to your taste! We prefer spicy mayo, a slice of cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles for a quick meal with a side of french fries.
Recipe Tips
- Cook from frozen – Do not thaw first.
- We used frozen Tyson Chicken Patties, but any brand can be used.
- Breaded chicken patties, such as the Tyson brand, come pre-cooked and frozen, so when air frying we are basically heating up the frozen chicken patties until they are fully heated through. For that reason, this recipe will not work for raw chicken patties.
- Cook time may vary depending on your specific model of air fryer.
- Recipe time and temperature are based on a preheated air fryer.
Storing and Reheating
- Storing Leftover Chicken Patties:
- Allow the patties to cool to room temperature before storing.
- Place the cooled patties in an airtight container or wrap them tightly in aluminum foil or plastic wrap.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
- Reheating Leftover Chicken Patties:
- To reheat in the air fryer, preheat the air fryer to 375°F and heat the patties for 3-4 minutes until thoroughly warmed.
- If using an oven, preheat it to 350°F and place the patties on a baking sheet. Reheat for about 10 minutes or until hot.
- For microwave reheating, place the patty on a microwave-safe plate and heat on high for 1-2 minutes, checking for warmth.

FAQ
You should cook frozen chicken patties directly out of the freezer without thawing them. If you thaw them first, they may become soggy.
Although the recipe doesn't require additional oil, you can lightly spray the air fryer basket with oil in a spray bottle. Avoid using a cooking spray with additives as it might damage the non-stick coating inside your air fryer. Or, use a small piece of parchment paper with holes in it to prevent sticking. However, most frozen chicken patties already contain enough oil in their breading to prevent sticking.
Try your basic burger toppings, like lettuce, tomato, cheese, onions, pickles, and sauces like mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, or specialty sauces like Sriracha Aioli (our favorite). Feel free to get creative and customize your chicken patties according to your preferences!
