Copycat Big Mac Sauce
Mcdonald's Big Mac Sauce—it’s popular for a reason! This secret sauce for burgers packs flavor like no other. And, after extensive recipe testing, we've found the perfect balance of ingredients to make our copycat recipe the burger sauce of your dreams.
Serve our homemade Big Mac Sauce with everything from classic cheeseburgers, to a salad dressing for big mac salad (it's way better than thousand island dressing), or a dipping sauce for onion rings, homemade french fries, and roasted veggies like broccoli or cauliflower bites. You can even enjoy it with steak, fish tacos, or shrimp. When we say Big Mac Sauce is a versatile sauce, we mean it!
Don't worry about needing any complicated ingredients. Our original Big Mac Sauce uses a handful of common pantry sauces and seasonings, as well as a couple of secret (but simple!) ingredients that really make it stand out.
Homemade Big Mac Sauce Ingredients
- Mayonnaise: Use real full-fat mayo, and not miracle whip or reduced fat mayo, for best flavor and texture. Mayonnaise is a major contributor to getting the flavor of big mac sauce right, so it's important not to use a lower fat substitute.
- Yellow Mustard: Use your favorite yellow mustard! We would not recommend using other varieties of mustard, as it will change the flavor of the sauce.
- Ketchup: Use your favorite ketchup! Ketchup adds sweetness and balances out the flavors of the sharp mustard and vinegar.
- White Vinegar: Adds a bit of sharpness and tang to the sauce, without overpowering the sweeter elements.
- Bread and Butter Pickle Chips: We have tested our big mac sauce recipe many times, and find that bread and butter pickle chips offer the most authentic flavor. Dill pickles, dill pickle relish, and sweet pickle relish are not the same. But, if they're what you have on hand, you can try using them instead.
- Pickle Juice: You can use the pickle juice straight from the jar of bread and butter pickles. That's what we do!
- Seasoning: The seasoning in our big mac sauce is paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and kosher salt. This adds a very nice balance and depth of flavors to the sauce. We recommend kosher salt rather than table salt.

- Be sure to measure everything as specified in the recipe, then mix it together and let it chill. Once chilled, give it a taste and adjust the seasonings to your liking. This gives the flavors time to meld together and develop.
