Toaster Strudel in the Air Fryer
Sure, a toaster is easy enough to use for making your morning toaster strudel. But is it the most satisfying option? Definitely not! Try air frying toaster strudel instead. Air frying gives both homemade toaster strudel and frozen toaster strudel a crispy crust, but the inside remains soft and sweet.
It's fast, too. You don't have to wait for your oven to preheat, which takes much longer than the air fryer's preheating time. It only takes five minutes of cooking time to toast up to crisp perfection with tasty, gooey filling.
Where to Buy Toaster Strudel

Making Homemade Toaster Strudel
If you enjoy frozen toaster strudel, you are going to love our homemade toaster strudel recipe. If you have roughly 20 minutes to spare, give it a try! Using frozen puff pastry sheets and a filling of your choice, such as fruit preserves or even a dessert spread like Nutella, makes this a quick and easy recipe to follow.
Ingredients
For Toaster Strudel Pastry
- 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
- ⅓ cup filling, your choice, such as apple filling, cherry filling, Nutella, etc.
- 1 large egg
- 1 Tablespoon water
For the Icing Topping
- 1 Tablespoon melted butter, unsalted
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- 1 Tablespoon milk or heavy cream
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
Step 1 - Forming the Pastries: Place 1 sheet of puff pastry onto a silicone baking mat, parchment paper, or a lightly floured surface. Cut the sheet into 6 equal rectangles.
Step 2 - Spoon dessert filling over top of 3 of the rectangles (1½ Tablespoons for each one). Leave a ½-inch rim around the edges.
Step 3 - In a small bowl, whisk 1 egg together with 1 Tablespoon water. This is an egg wash. Using your fingers, lightly coat the rim of the puff pastry with the egg wash. Be careful to only get onto the edge and not spill over the sides of the pastry. Do not discard leftover egg wash, you will need it again.
Step 4 - Layer the remaining puff pastry rectangles over top of the filling and press the edges to seal. Use your finger or the tines of a fork to press the edges together.
Step 5 - Brush the top of each strudel lightly with the remaining egg wash.
Step 6 - Air Frying Homemade Toaster Strudel: Preheat your air fryer to 350°F for about 5 minutes. Carefully place your homemade strudels into the air fryer basket. Air fry for 5-7 minutes, flip, and then air fry an additional 4-5 minutes until both sides are golden brown and puffed.
Step 7 - Carefully remove the cooked toaster strudel from the air fryer and place it aside.
Step 8 - Icing the Strudels: In a bowl, whisk 1 Tablespoon melted butter with ¼ cup powdered sugar, 1 Tablespoon milk or cream, ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix until well-blended, adding more milk or cream to thin the icing as necessary.
Step 9 - Use a spoon to drizzle the icing onto the cooled toaster strudels. Serve, and enjoy!
Step 10 - Topping Suggestions: Try topping your homemade strudels with an additional sprinkle of powdered sugar and fresh berries. A dollop of whipped cream pairs well with just about every flavor, too!
