What's the secret to making the best air fryer s'mores?
Creating delicious air fryer s'mores can be a breeze with the right techniques. Air fryers work like super convection ovens, using fast-circulating air to cook. However, this can be a challenge when dealing with lightweight food such as marshmallows.
Because of this we need to secure the marshmallows in the air fryer basket to keep them from flying about in the super fast circulating air.

In our recipe testing, we found the best and easiest way to secure the marshmallows and we're sharing that trick with you today! Watch our video of how to make air fryer s’mores to see how we secure the marshmallows.
Additionally, we recommend spraying the top of the marshmallows with baking spray as this will help to caramelize the marshmallows for that roasted s'mores flavor we love!
Lastly, we air fry marshmallows at the lowest possible temperature that still allows the sugar to caramelize. 350 degrees F is the sweet spot when air frying marshmallows. At this temperature, the marshmallows will caramelize without getting too hot too fast and this is key to making the best air fryer s'mores!
Ingredients

- Graham Crackers, snapped in half: Use your favorite brand of graham crackers. Gluten-free graham crackers work just fine, too!
- Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bars: You can use your preferred chocolate bar, but Hershey's milk chocolate melts very well for s'mores. Additionally, it will give you the most classic s'mores taste.
- Large Marshmallows: Mini marshmallows will not work for this recipe.
Equipment
- Cupcake Liners
- Long Wooden Toothpicks
- Aluminum foil, rolled into 4 balls
- Baker's Joy Baking Spray, or baking spray of choice
Note: If you're using an air fryer oven with a tray, and not a model with a basket, you will only need cupcake liners or parchment paper, and baking spray.
How to Make S'mores in the Air Fryer
Preparing the Graham Crackers and Chocolate

Step 1 - Prepare your graham crackers and chocolate before air frying marshmallows. Snap the graham crackers in half. Place one half on a serving platter for the s'more base and set aside the other half for the top.

Step 2 - Place chocolate squares on each graham cracker base. Set aside until marshmallows are ready.
Our Secret Method for Perfect Air Fryer S'mores

Step 1 - Roll a sheet of aluminum foil into 4 foil balls. Place them, evenly spaced, underneath the air fryer basket in your air fryer. Ensure the basket fits snugly over top to hold the foil balls in place.

Step 2 - Lightly spray the top of each marshmallow with baking spray, such as Baker's Joy Baking Spray. This helps the marshmallow brown on top and gives it a more traditional roasted taste. Important note: Never spray pressurized cooking or baking spray directly in the air fryer basket, as it can damage the non-stick coating of your air fryer. Make sure to do this step outside of the air fryer basket!

Step 3 - Place a marshmallow, standing up, at the center of each cupcake liner. Insert a toothpick through the center of the marshmallow and through the cupcake liner, leaving ⅓ of the toothpick exposed.

Step 4 - Hold the toothpick at the top. Insert the bottom of the toothpick through one of the holes of your air fryer basket to pierce one of the tin foil balls beneath the basket. Press down to make sure the toothpick is firmly inserted into the foil, then press down on the marshmallow to ensure it is securely held in place as well. This holds both the cupcake liner and the marshmallow down as they air fry. Repeat for each marshmallow. (See video for a visual demonstration.)
Air Frying S'mores

Step 1 - Air fry at 350°F for 2-3 minutes or until your marshmallows look nicely toasted according to your preference. Keep in mind, as the marshmallows cook, they will get softer and expand. If you air fry them for too long, it will make a mess. We recommend checking on them after 2 minutes, when they should be slightly browned on top and heated through. If needed, add another minute, checking at the 30 second mark for doneness.

Step 2 - Carefully remove the marshmallows from the air fryer when ready. Immediately transfer them to the prepared graham cracker bases, placing them on top of the chocolate. Press the top half of the graham cracker down on top of the marshmallow. The heat from the marshmallow will melt the chocolate. Enjoy your delicious treat!
Toaster Oven Style Air Fryer Oven Instructions
Note: There is no need to use the tinfoil method for a countertop air fryer oven, as the marshmallows are not at risk of flying around (we've tested this so you don't have to!). Simply follow these instructions:
- Preheat your air fryer oven to 350°F. Don't skip this step!
- Prepare your graham crackers and chocolate candy bars before air frying marshmallows. Snap the graham crackers in half. Place one half on a serving platter for the s'more base and set aside the other half for the top.
- Place chocolate squares on each graham cracker base. Set aside until marshmallows are ready.
- Lightly spray the top of each marshmallow with baking spray, such as Baker's Joy Baking Spray. This helps the marshmallow brown on top and gives it a more traditional roasted taste. Important note: Never spray pressurized cooking or baking spray directly in the air fryer basket, as it can damage the non-stick coating of your air fryer. Make sure to do this step outside of the air fryer basket!
- Once your air fryer oven is preheated and your ingredients are ready, carefully place each marshmallow in a single layer on the air fryer tray, on top of parchment paper or a cupcake liner. Air fry for 3 minutes or until they reach your desired temperature. Be sure to place the marshmallows on a cupcake liner or parchment paper for easy clean up, and to prevent the marshmallow from leaking through the holes in the air fryer tray.
- Carefully remove the marshmallows from the air fryer tray using a spatula. Immediately top each chocolate piece with a hot marshmallow, then press the top half of the graham cracker down on top of the marshmallow. The heat from the marshmallow will result in perfectly melted chocolate without having to roast it any further.

Tips
- Air fryer brands vary, so your model may cook differently than ours. Cook time may vary based on your specific model of air fryer, so test and adjust the time as necessary.
- Recipe time and temperature is based on a cold air fryer. If cooking in multiple batches, be sure to check on the remaining batches early, as they may cook more quickly.

Air Fryer S'mores Variations
- Use another type of chocolate: Try using dark chocolate, white chocolate, or even Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, if you're feeling adventurous. All of these make great alternatives to the typical milk chocolate in s'mores.
- Add a spread or a drizzle of something sweet: Try drizzling your s'mores with caramel or spreading cookie butter on your graham crackers.
- Replace the graham crackers: If you're not a fan of graham crackers, you can use cookies of any kind you like best, instead! Because we're not air frying the cookie base, simply use your favorite to pair with marshmallows.

FAQ
If you don't have baking spray, you can lightly brush the marshmallows with a neutral oil (you want to make sure it's flavorless!) or use another non-stick cooking spray. The goal is to help the marshmallows brown, not to grease them heavily, so only very lightly oil or spray them. If you would rather not, then you can skip this step entirely, but keep in mind they may not brown as well.
Yes, but you will need an alternative so the marshmallows don't stick to your air fryer tray and make a mess. If you don't have cupcake liners, try cutting pieces of parchment paper to size.
Yes, it is completely safe to use wooden toothpicks in the air fryer. Just ensure they are long enough to handle easily and not too close to the heating elements.
