Equipment

  • Air Fryer We're using a 7 quart air fryer

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken wings winglets and wing drumettes
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder helps get them extra crispy
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • teaspoon garlic powder
  • teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 3 ounces Frank’s Red Hot Sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. While the air fryer preheats, pat 1 lb chicken wings to remove excess moisture. Then, place the wings in a large bowl. Add ½ teaspoon baking powder and toss the wings to coat them with the powder.
  • When the air fryer is preheated, spray the air fryer basket with your favorite cooking oil in a sprayer bottle. Avoid using pressurized cooking sprays, which have additives that will damage the non-stick coating of your air fryer.
  • Add the chicken wings to the air fryer basket and spray them lightly with oil.
  • Air fry for 16-18 minutes (23-25 minutes if using a toaster oven style air fryer with a tray), turning each wing over halfway through air frying.
  • The wings should reach an internal temperature of 175-190°F. Check using an instant-read meat thermometer inserted inside the thickest part of the wing before removing them from the air fryer.
  • While the chicken wings are air frying, add 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter and 3 ounces Frank’s Red Hot Sauce to a small, microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 45 seconds, until the butter is fully melted. Whisk to combine, and set aside.
  • Mix ¼ teaspoon kosher salt, ⅛ teaspoon garlic powder, and ⅛ teaspoon black pepper together in a small dish to make the chicken wing seasoning, and set aside.
  • When the wings are cooked through, remove them from the air fryer and immediately toss with seasoning in a large bowl. Keep tossing the wings until they absorb the seasoning.
  • Pour buffalo sauce over chicken wings. Use tongs to toss the wings and coat with the buffalo sauce.
  • Serve Buffalo wings immediately with carrot and celery sticks and a dipping sauce such as ranch or blue cheese dressing. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Use an oil sprayer filled with your favorite vegetable oil, such as light olive oil or avocado oil, rather than a pressurized cooking spray, which can break down the non-stick coating of your air fryer.
  • When microwaving the buffalo sauce, make sure to cover the bowl with a paper plate or paper towel to stop the sauce from spattering.
  • Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. If the wings are too close together or  overlapping, they won't cook correctly. Work in a single layer of wings at a time, allowing room between each wing.
  • Cook time may vary based on your model of air fryer. All air fryer brands vary. Test until you find the perfect timing for your air fryer.
  • Make sure to use an instant read meat thermometer, especially when air frying chicken!
  • If cooking multiple batches, check on subsequent batches early. They may cook more quickly.
